Undergraduate Degrees: Courses and Vacancies 2024/2025

The School of Arts and Humanities currently has 17 undergraduate degree programs, with a duration of 6 semesters/3 academic years.

Documents to be submitted with the application

a) Copy of the Passport or foreign Identity Card;

b) Declaration under oath that the candidate does not have Portuguese or other European Union nationality, nor is covered by any of the special conditions that, according to the International Student Statute, do not confer the International Student status (download the Declaration of Honor model);

c) Secondary education diploma or equivalent, or, if the academic qualification does not correspond to the Portuguese secondary education, a document proving that it allows, in the country where it was obtained, the access to higher education, duly validated by the competent entity of that country, indicating the grading scale in which it is expressed (e.g. in the case of Brazilian students, they must present the diploma of completion of secondary education);

d) A document proving the approval in the entrance examinations defined in Portugal for the cycle of studies/ degree to which you are applying (the entrance examinations must have been taken in the calendar year or in the 3 calendar years prior to the application), or documentation that allows proving that, during your schooling, you have passed the curricular components that integrate the knowledge covered by the entrance examinations defined in Portugal for the cycle of studies/ degree to which you are applying (ex: in the case of Brazilian students, they must submit the results of ENEM of the curent calendar year or in the 3 calendar years prior to the application).

e) Elementary Diploma of Portuguese as a Foreign Language. Please note: students from Portuguese-speaking countries are not required to submit this diploma.

Please Note: Documents proving qualifications, whenever they have been issued by institutions from non-EU countries, must be legally recognized by a Portuguese consular agent or by the Hague Apostille in the country of origin of the documents. Whenever they are not issued in Portuguese, English, French or Spanish, the documents must be translated into one of these languages by a certified translator.

Access and Admission Requirements

Students that may apply and enroll in the 1st cycle of undergraduate studies at the School of Arts and Humanities:

a) are not of Portuguese or other European Union nationality, have not legally resided in Portugal for more than 2 years, and intend to enter a 1st cycle - Bachelor's Degree - course at the School of Arts and Humanities (Attention: in case you have two or more nationalities and one of them corresponds to the nationality of a Member State, including Portugal, you cannot apply!);

b) hold a qualification/diploma that, in the country where it was obtained, entitles them to apply and enter higher education in that country;

International students must also cumulatively demonstrate that they:

a) have an academic qualification in the areas of knowledge required for the study cycle to which the student is applying, under the terms defined in article 4 of Order no. 8295-B/2015 of 29 July;

b) have a Portuguese language level B1, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages;

i) International applicants who do not possess the B1 level or a DEPLE (Elementary Diploma of Foreign Language) may apply provided they commit to attend an annual Portuguese Language and Culture course, or;

ii) take a Portuguese language and culture test to be held at the School of Arts and Humanities (first phase: first week of April; second phase: last week of June).

Applications are accepted from Brazilian students who have taken ENEM in the current calendar year or in the 3 calendar years prior to the application and who have a high school diploma.

Applications are also accepted from Chinese students who have completed high school and taken the Gaokao or Liankao in the curent calendar year or in the 3 calendar years prior to the application.

Seriation Criteria

a) 50% of the average in the 12th year of schooling or equivalent in the country of provenance (secondary or high school);

b) 50% of the average marks obtained in the specific tests required for access to the course the candidate intends to attend (rounded to the tenths) or in the equivalent tests held in the country of provenance (e.g. ENEM, Gaokao or Liankao);

The minimum selection mark for each study cycle is 100, on a scale of 100 to 200.

In the case of Brazilian students, the classification obtained in ENEM is considered in one of the following areas of knowledge: humanities and its technologies or languages, codes and their technologies, as well as the writing. It is mandatory to have at least 500 points in the area of knowledge relevant to the Degree Course the student is applying for and at least 550 points in the essay.

Fees and Charges

Fees and charges for undergraduate courses:

Application fee: EUR 60.00 (payable upon application)

Tuition/annual fee: EUR 3,500.00 (30% paid upon registration)

Registration fee (includes school insurance): EUR 20.00

Students can choose to pay tuition fees in instalments. In your Fenix.Edu profile (Tab: View account), each student will find precise information about monthly installment amounts and due dates.

Erasmus+ Studies - Incoming
Attendance for one or two semesters at the School of Arts and Humanities for students from a higher educaiton institution participating in the Erasmus+ program

Erasmus+ students can attend any course unit available in the study cycle corresponding to the one they are attending at their home institution, up to a limit of 30 ECTS per semester.

The course units are taught mostly in Portuguese. As an alternative, they may attend a set of course units taught in English. Erasmus+ students can attend a course of Portuguese as a Foreign Language during their stay in Lisbon.

Erasmus+ Traineeship - Incoming
2 to 12 months traineeship period at the School of Arts and Humanities for students from an Erasmus+ partner institution

The School of Arts and Humanities accepts annually students for Erasmus+ traineeships. The traineeships may take place in one of the research units, or in one of the Faculty’s administrative services.

Students interested in an Erasmus+ traineeships should submit their application directly to the unit or service where they wish to do the traineeship by e-mail.

Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility - Incoming
Attendance of one or two semesters at the School of Arts and Humanities for students froms Erasmus+ partner countries

International Credit Mobility is an action within the Erasmus+ Programme, which provides mobility for students from a non-Erasmus+ associated country participating in the program; it also provides for teaching and training mobilities.

The School of Arts and Humanities' partners in this program may vary from year to year, depending on the type and number of grants that are awarded to the Faculty.

The partners, the duration of the mobility and the type of scholarship are announced annually.

Exchange - Incoming
Attendance of one or two semesters at the School of Arts and Humanities for students from institutions with an exchange agreement

Students from foreign higher education institutions with which the School of Arts and Humanities has signed an exchange or collaboration agreement that includes an exchange program may attend the Faculty for one or two semesters, provided that they have been duly nominated by their institution.

The agreements generally include mobility for undergraduate, master's and doctoral students. It is recommended to contact the international relations office of the student's home institution for application and nomination requirements.

Exchange students may attend any course unit available in the study cycle corresponding to the one they attend at their home institution, up to a maximum of 30 ECTS per semester.

Exchange mobilities carried out under an agreement are usually not associated with any type of financial support. All students have to pay an application fee and, in some cases, tuition fees may apply. It is recommended that you contact the international relations office of your home institution for more information on exchange conditions.

Some countries or institutions may offer scholarship programs; students should plan in advance to better prepare their application.

Study in Portugual Network - SiPN
One or two semesters at the School of Arts and Humanities for North American Sdutents

North American students can attend the School of Arts and Humanities under programs such as the Study in Portugal Network - SiPN, or the Advanced Liberal Arts @ Letras ULisboa.

These programs are coordinated by the Luso-American Development Foundation, FLAD.

IAESTE - International Internship in Portugal
Paid International Internship in Portugal

Foreign students interested in a paid international internship may apply to the program promoted by the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience - IAESTE.

Almeida Garrett Program - Incoming
One semester at the School of Arts and Humanities for national students

Students from other Portuguese higher education institutions can attend a semester at the School of Arts and Humanities under the Almeida Garrett Program. The program aims to promote quality and reinforce the national dimension of higher education. Within the scope of student mobility, the Almeida Garrett Program offers the possibility of completing one semester of studies, with full academic recognition.

In the undergraduate programs (1st Cycle), mobility can take place from the 2nd year on, as long as the student has already completed at least 60 ECTS.

In the Master's programs (2nd Cycle), mobility can take place from the 2nd semester of the 1st year and with an exclusive duration of one semester.

Throughout their course, each student may undertake a period of mobility in national universities.

If interested in this program, students should refer to the mobility office of their institutions.

Free Mover (visiting student) - Incoming
Attendance of one or two semesters at the School of Arts and Humanities for students from non-partner higher educaiton institutions

If the foreign higher education institution in which the student is enrolled does not participate in the Erasmus+ Programme, does not have a collaboration or exchange arrangement with the School of Arts and Humanities, or has not nominated the student for a mobility period, students can still apply to attend one or two semesters at the School of Arts and Humanities as a free mover (visiting student).

Visiting students are accepted from any study cycle - Bachelor, Master´s or Doctoral.

Applications for visiting students at the School of Arts and Humanities are made online through the academic portal FENIX. Students must first register in order to access the application form for exchange mobility - Incoming.

Incoming students can take any course unit available in their study cycle, up to a maximum of 30 ECTS per semester. Master's and PhD visiting students may also carry out research under the supervision of a Professor or researcher at the School of Arts and Humanities.

The School of Arts and Humanities does not provide any kind of financial support for visiting students. If they are not part of a mobility program, visiting students have to pay a registration fee and tuitions according to the duration of their mobility.

Some countries or institutions may offer scholarship programs; students should plan in advance if they wish to apply for these programs in order to be eligible for the grants.

• Fees for mobility students

Fees

All incoming mobility students (regardless of program) have to pay a registration fee. This fee includes the expenses of the administrative management of the mobility process, the issuing of the student card, the issuing of mobility documents and school insurance.

Exchange students with reciprocity and Erasmus+ students are exempt from paying other fees.

Incoming free movers (visiting students)/ Erasmus+, students who have not been nominated by their home institution, or exchange students exceeding the established number of places (non-reciprocity) are not exempt from paying other fees.

• Fees for mobility students

Accommodation

The Universidade de Lisboa has a network of 19 residences, distributed throughout the city and located near the 5 campuses of ULisboa. The rooms can be double or triple; kitchens and bathrooms are shared. The residences also have common areas for socializing. The price varies according to the type of room.

The student community who uses the residences is very wide and there are few places available for incoming students. It is therefore recommended that students also look for alternative accommodation while waiting for the confirmation of a vacancy in a ULisboa residence.

Students who cannot find a vacancy in a ULisboa residence or who prefer to look for their own accommodation can consult ULisboa's suggestions here.

Visas

Students who are not nationals of the European Union or European Economic Area country need a study visa to enter Portugal. In order to obtain a study visa, the student must previously apply for a letter of acceptance from the School of Arts and Humanities, following the application procedures according to the type of incoming mobility (Erasmus+, exchange, visiting).

The study visa must be requested at a Portuguese Embassy or Consulate in the country of origin. Visa applications must be made at least two months before the expected date of arrival in Portugal.

Portuguese Language and Culture Courses

Foreign students may start learning Portuguese or reinforce their knowledge of the language during their stay in Lisbon. The School of Arts and Humanities offers a wide range of courses in Portuguese as a foreign language, following the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Language Certification - Portuguese as a Foreign Language

Incoming mobility students can also take advantage of their stay in Lisbon to sit for a certification exam of their Portuguese language level. These exams are held by the Center for Evaluation of Portuguese as a Foreign Language (CAPLE), and are internationally recognized by the Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE).
