The American Corner (AC) in the Library of the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon (Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa - FLUL), resulting from a cooperation protocol signed in 2011 between FLUL and the Embassy of the United States of America, is a space open to the academic community, financially supported by the US Department of State, oriented towards study, research, the development of ideas and the acquisition of knowledge.
The American Corner is also a creativity laboratory supported by a technological infrastructure, and aims to contribute to the development of skills and projects in the field of innovation that can generate social impact and translate into personal empowerment, through strategic programs, such as such as innovation and entrepreneurship for the cultural sector, arts and creative industries.
Like its counterparts in other national and European Universities, the American Corner of the School of Arts and Humanities has developed an activities program, unique within the international network of American Corners, whose model is specifically dedicated to the Arts and Humanities, of which the annually initiative Beyond Creative is an example, among other actions, encompassing activities of a diverse cultural scope and activities promoting information literacy, offered through the FLUL Library training program. The space, equipped with the latest computer equipment technology, has access to several electronic resources, including eLibrary USA.
FLUL's American Corner is part of a global American Spaces network, dedicated to the development of creative programs with the aim of promoting knowledge about the United States of America, its people, its culture and its fundamental values.
