Here you will find detailed information on how to use the spaces provided by the Library:
Ground Floor
Reception Desk
At the reception desk you may:
- Request the use of lockers
- Activate your FLUL/IGOT personal card (issued by the CGD) so you can enter the Library
- Loan equipment of the American Corner
Reading Room Access System (turnstiles)
Access to the Reading Room is controlled by a turnstile system. The system is activated by optical card reading.
Authorization to access the Library space is given to:
- All readers with a valid registration at the Library and with an access card activated in the system (the access card corresponds to your personal FLUL/IGOT card, issued by CGD)
- All users holding a visitor card or an external reader card provided by the Library services.
Lockers
While using the Reading Room, you can leave your belongings in one of the 96 lockers available for this purpose. The lockers can be found in a separate room, accessible through the Library lobby (Ground Floor).
Lockers are available for use exclusively during the Library's opening hours to the public, outside of which all lockers must remain open.
Library Technical Services
Library Division Technical Services are located on the left wing of the Ground Floor. Access to this work space is restricted and reserved to the Library technical staff.
Reading Room ǀ American Corner
In the Study Room you have at your disposal the American Corner (AC) space in the Library of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Lisbon (FLUL), resulting from a cooperation protocol signed between FLUL and the Embassy of the United States of America, providing access to 11 Mac computers. You can find more information about how this service works in the page dedicated to the FLUL’s American Corner. In this room, dedicated to studying, you’ll have access to the wireless network and a set of computers for public use.
User Training Room
The user training room is located on the right wing of the Ground Floor. Access to this room is restricted and reserved to the Library technical staff and other duly authorized users.

Individual Reading Rooms (Gabinetes de Leitura Individual - GLI)
On this floor you will find a set of 20 offices for individual study, numbered from 1 to 20.
General use conditions:
- GLI use is limited to a maximum of two users
- GLI can only be used by readers with a valid registration at the Library
- Access to the GLI is restricted and must be requested in advance at the Service Desk on the 2nd Floor
- At the end of use, the room’s key must be returned at the Service Desk on the 2nd Floor

Study Rooms (Salas de Estudo - SE)
General use conditions:
- SE use is limited to a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 6 users
- SE can only be used by readers with a valid registration at the Library
- Access to the SE is restricted and must be requested in advance at the Service Desk on the 2nd Floor
- At the end of use, the room’s key must be returned at the Service Desk on the 2nd Floor

2nd Floor
Service Desk (Balcão de Atendimento)
At the Service Desk you will be able to:
- Borrow items (home and deposits)
- Return items
- Renew borrowed items
- Reserve items
- Renew your Library registration
- Activate your FLUL or IGOT personal card (issued by the CGD) for registration purposes at the Library
- Request the use of Study Rooms (SE) and Individual Reading Rooms (GLI)

On this floor you will find a set of 6 study rooms (SE), identified with the letters G, H, I, J, L and M .
General use conditions:
- SE use is limited to a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 6 users
- SE can only be used by readers with a valid registration at the Library
- Access to the SE is restricted and must be requested in advance at the Service Desk on the 2nd Floor
- At the end of use, the room’s key must be returned at the Service Desk on the 2nd Floor
