poster digital versionOne of the many features that constitute Iris Murdoch’s philosophical originality is her ability to weave together figures and themes from different philosophical traditions. Murdoch articulates her views on morality, metaphysics, art and politics by referring to a broad and perhaps unusual cluster of authors (some names are: Plato, Kant, Schopenhauer, Weil, Wittgenstein, Sartre, Adorno and Derrida). Such eclecticism is a proof of the independence of Murdoch’s philosophy: her thought never gets conflated in her references, but can be rather carved out through comparisons. Thus the spirit of the present workshop: to retrace and to further explore Murdoch’s concepts and philosophical style in juxtaposition with some interlocutors either present in her texts or virtually aligned with her ideas.
