The School of Arts and Humanities believes in the importance of internationalisation in students’ academic journeys, with both teaching and research having a strong international dimension.

With an extensive network of more than 300 strategic partnerships with renowned universities around the world, the school’s international programmes include student, academic and staff mobility, Portuguese language and culture courses, summer programmes, teaching and research in literature, philosophy, history, archaeology, modern and classical languages, linguistics, and interdisciplinary topics.

Each year, the school welcomes hundreds of students from around 60 different nationalities and offers its own students a wide range of opportunities to internationalise their academic pathway.

  

STUDY ABROAD

The internationalisation strategy of the School of Arts and Humanities aims to provide undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students with the best opportunities for study and internships abroad. To achieve this, the school has established a growing number of cooperation agreements with leading international academic and scientific partners.

The University of Lisbon ranks first in Portugal in the major international rankings. The School of Arts and Humanities is the largest Arts and Humanities school in Portugal and one of the largest schools of the University of Lisbon.
In 2022, the school was once again recognised as the national leader in Arts and Humanities by most of the most prestigious international rankings.

TEACHING AND TRAINING MOBILITIES

Central to internationalisation and inter-university cooperation, the mobility of academic staff on teaching assignments is particularly important for students who choose not to participate in mobility programmes during their studies. Academic mobility takes place under Erasmus+, Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility, or through cooperation agreements and protocols.
Erasmus+ promotes and supports staff mobility for training, career development and leadership activities. These may include institutional visits, meetings with equivalent services, practical learning programmes through job shadowing, participation in training activities, among others. Such initiatives provide excellent opportunities to share experiences and best practices. The School of Arts and Humanities encourages staff mobility through Erasmus+ as well as through cooperation and exchange agreements.
