International PhD Programs
Doctoral Programmes in Cotutelle
Doctoral students may request to write their thesis under an international cotutelle agreement, in order to carry out part of the doctoral program in a foreign higher education institution, under the supervision of at least one professor from each institution, and thus obtain the doctoral degree awarded by both institutions.
Doctoral theses under the international cotutelle agreement are carried out within the scope of an individual agreement established between the Universidade de Lisboa, the School of Arts and Humanities, the foreign higher education institution and the doctoral candidate.
The agreement must follow the requirements established in the Regulations for the preparation of doctoral theses under international cotutelle at ULisboa (2015).
The two co-supervisors monitor and oversee the work developed by the student, who will defend the thesis only once, at the School of Arts and Humanities or at the foreign higher education institution and will obtain the doctoral degree awarded by both institutions.
