The School of Arts and Humanities is the largest School of Arts and Humanities in Portugal and one of the largest Schools of the Universidade de Lisboa.
In 2022, the School of Arts and Humanities was again considered the national leader in Arts and Humanities by the overwhelming majority of the most reputable international rankings.
Rankings 2022
Foreign students have several opportunities to attend the School of Arts and Humanities of the Universidade de Lisboa.
Full Degree: Undergraduate, Master's, PhD
International students have the opportunity to attend a full Bachelor's degree (3 years), Master's degree (2 years) or Doctoral degree (3-5 years).
Undergraduate studies | Foreign students interested in attending one of the 17 degrees of the School of Arts and Humanities for a full degree may apply in one of the following ways:
- if you are a citizen of a European Union country, you may apply to the National Competition for Access to Higher Education;
- if you are an EU citizen who already holds an academic degree, you can apply to the Special competition for higher degree holders;
- if you are a national of a European Union country (*) and you have already attended part of a degree course, you can apply to the Special Competition for Change of Institution/Course Par to attend a Bachelor degree at the School of Arts and Humanities;
- if you are not a European Union citizen, you may apply under the International Student regime or if you are already attending part of a degree course you may apply to the Special Competition for Change of Institution/Course Par for a Bachelor degree at the School of Arts and Humanities.
(*) it does not apply only for those who are citizens of a European Union country. "Those who are not nationals of a member state of the European Union and who have been legally residing in Portugal for more than two years continuously on 1st January of the year in which they wish to enter higher education, as well as their children who are legally residing with them;". Master's and Doctoral degrees | International applicants interested in attending Master's and Doctoral degrees at the School of Arts and Humanities follow the same requirements as national students.
International Mobility - 1-2 semesters at FLUL
International students can apply to attend one or two semesters, as a mobility student or as a visiting student.
Each area of the School of Arts and Humanities has an Incoming Mobility Coordinator, who, with the support of the External and International Relations Office, is responsible for preparing the study plans and academic recognition of the mobility students.
International Mobility - Traineeship
Foreign students can also do a traineeship at the School of Arts and Humanities, through the Erasmus + traineeships program.
National Mobility - Studies
Students from other Portuguese universities may also attend a semester at the School of Arts and Humanities, applying for national mobility under the Almeida Garrett program.
The School of Arts and Humanities participates in a growing number of international Master's and Doctoral Programs in Arts and Humanities whose syllabus foresees attendance at the School of Arts and Humanities and foreign universities.
